MEMPHIS, TN — Anticipation gave way to celebration in the Medical District this Saturday as Body By Daavon officially opened the doors to GYM 11. In a unified show of support, both the Memphis Medical District Collaborative (MMDC) and the Downtown Memphis Commission (DMC) held ribbon-cutting ceremonies to mark the gym's high-profile arrival.
Located at 405 Monroe Ave, GYM 11 is a significant expansion of owner Daavon Grayson’s Cordova-based success.
“It’s exciting and we’ve had great energy that’s been flowing through each (nook) and cranny of the gym," Grayson shared during the ceremony. He and his wife excitedly cut the ribbon to cheers from an intimate and excited crowd. "I’m excited to be here. And I'm glad today is the day!”
“GYM 11 represents strength, discipline, and also determination, which is also what the people who work, live, learn, and play right here in the medical district do,” said MMDC Vice President Keesa Mitchell.
The event highlighted the support that made this transformation possible. Key partners included the MMDC, which led both recruitment and funding efforts, and the DMC, which provided essential capital. Also in attendance to celebrate the new fitness destination were representatives from the South Main Association and the Downtown Neighborhood Association.
Following the ribbon cutting, DJ Chris set the tone for the celebration while guests enjoyed small bites from Tonica Downtown. The festivities were rounded out with handcrafted cocktails featuring Old Dominick Distillery, served by bartenders from The Sullivan Agency.
