The Memphis Medical District Collaborative (MMDC) is marking a major victory this year. Following the successful graduation of its Emerging Developers Cohort in the second quarter of 2025, the program is already demonstrating tangible results across the city.
Offered free of charge in partnership with the Urban Land Institute (ULI), this initiative is proving to be a critical pathway for local builders to make a real impact.
Among the cohort's notable graduates are Averell Mondie (Ave) and Aric Hotchkiss of Hopscotch Construction. This dynamic duo is quickly becoming a development success story, with their work capturing significant attention—including features by key stakeholders like OOBA (Office of Basic Architecture) and Bank3.
Their flagship achievement is a celebrated “adapted reuse” property in Southside on Baine. This innovative transformation was recognized and awarded by the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Memphis this past month. It's a powerful showcase of the top-tier skills they honed right here in the District, which they are now effectively using to build beyond.
The impact of the MMDC’s initiative is clear and widespread. Hotchkiss & Mondie are currently planning to invest heavily across the Bluff City. Their projects span crucial areas including the Medical District, Uptown, and South Memphis, demonstrating a commitment to holistic, city-wide growth.
The MMDC celebrates their dedication and success. By supporting and fostering local talent like Ave and Aric, the organization is achieving its core goal: nurturing people who build futures for the entire community.
